Content Warnings: self-deprecation, internalized colorism

Dear Shugarrr,

These days when I’m online, I see content made around beautiful women who are poor or in poor conditions. You hear statements like “oh, she’s so beautiful.”I’m not being jealous or anything, but the truth is that people excuse beautiful people for

anything and everything. They make statements like the one I said as if those who are not “beautiful” are unworthy of compassion and empathy.

Shugarrr, I see people dashing out money to “beautiful people,”  giving up their seats for beautiful people and wanting to be in their orbit.

Is it my fault that I’m so “UNbeautiful?” Is it my fault that I don’t have Curvaceous body like Taylor or light skinned like Bell?

Am I to blame for my skin that is unclear or the constant acne breakout?

Beauty they say is in the eyes of the beholder, but I don’t even look into the mirror these

days. I don’t even take pictures because there’s always something off with me.

When will I be beautiful, Shugarr? When will I deserve empathy??

Yours truly,

D

Dear Shugarrr,

I’m stuck,

I can’t move,

I can’t breathe.

Have you ever felt stuck, as I’d the world is moving at the speed of light while you’re stuck in mud? And no matter what you do , you simply can’t catch up.

Yeah, this is how I feel now, as if time is running away from me. I have been applying for so many jobs with no avail.

I go online and see people congratulating themselves on jobs secured and happiness

galore.

I simply can’t relate, and that’s why I am stuck.

Is life supposed to be this tough?

Yours truly,

D
