Letter #283

It feels like March is slipping away from me. I know that we are barely two weeks into it, but in my mind, the end is already here. I feel like I’m living on fast-forward right now, constantly replaying how I envision my future in my mind. It’s a terrifying feeling watching my future play out before me: missing deadlines for summer programs, failing my exams, doing poorly on the SAT. Even more scary, though, are the overly optimistic visions I try to replace these images with. No matter what I try to tell myself, I already know that I’m going to fall short. I’m left hovering between complete failure and perfection, unable to accept mediocrity. Has my life always been this black and white? When will I learn that the pressure I put on myself is what causes me to fail in the first place?
